I never claimed to be an elite farmer. I just have a knack for recognizing patterns, which is all that you really need to locate a good farming spot, and yes I do believe that 10% of the guild wars population is responsible for 100% of the farming discoveries. The other 90% just read forums and go run. If anything I'm just a person who has a sort of Rainman-esque talent for pattern recognition and I have applied it in this game to do well. There is nothing elite about that. In fact it's downright freakish to most people.

Who cares about real world worth. I don't want to sell my stuff on Ebay that's just wrong and it panders to a group of people that I despise.( Die Ebayers Die!) No what I want is to have fun in this game and to me having fun means having the disposable game income to tinker endlessly with equipment, builds, and all sorts of other things. That kind of scratch can only be achieved through farming. If I thought that farming made me a "better" person in real life then I would lead a sad little existence. All I really want is a little time to bolster my accounts back up before people start sharing again. It costs to experiment with new professions and even though I'm fairly well set I'm likely to deplete my resources significantly as I set to tweaking my planned assassin and ritualist builds.

Well, I think that people can and will share their ideas no matter what. Eventually, everyone will know where to farm, with what build, and what you get there. There's just no stopping it. And then all Anet will do is set up a anti-farming code, then the tons of players just look for the next "uber farming spot" and horde that. It will continue and continue....

Let us learn from the mistakes of the past as we venture into this new chapter in Guild Wars.

I'd like to really address one mistake that sort of catches all the mistakes up in one group. Let's try to keep our mouths shut this time. If you find the next awesome, solo super assassin or ritualist build keep it to yourself. If you find a spot where rare items and runes fall form the heavens like rain do not post it on this forum or any other forum for that matter. We've seen broad nerfs across the board because people just have to share. Knock it off already. A sense of community is one thing but cutting our own throats is another entirely.

Remember the goal of the game is to have fun but there is no reason you can't make some loot while you do it. Just remember if you want to keep making the loot then the last thing you need to do is tell about your new farming spot or your new awesome solo build. I hope this has instilled you all with the appropriate amount of caution.

so then what uber farming spots have you found all by yourself?

Oh, none?

gg.

None that I will share because then you and every other person who reads these forums will swarm on them like flies on a carcass until they get nerfed and then I'll have to go find more spots. I have found one for runes to replace my lost ettin income. It's in Tyria and so far a trapper is the best build to use in it. That's all I'll say. I've found another for rare weapons, not many rare skins though but you can salvage good mods. It's a guarantee of at least 6 rare weapons drops per run and each run averages to about 15 minutes. I use my bizarre W/E build for that one and it is also in Tyria. I'm just wondering though how many years did it take you to achieve the flexibility required to so thoroughly stick your foot in your mouth?

Just because I choose not to share my spots doesn't mean I don't find them. Agreed it makes it hard to prove it but then again I don't have to prove anything. I've got my loot and I've got my good gear and that's all I care about. I certainly don't care about appeasing your attempts at baiting me. Now shoo you're getting the stink of poor all over me.

EDIT: Because I feel bad for some of you people let me toss you a bone. Any enemy that drops armor has the chance to drop a rune. The higher level enemies have a significantly higher pay off. Take those two factors into account and all you have to do to get runes is find a higher level area with a good concentration of armor dropping enemies then figure out how to kill them quickly and there you go you just found a rune farming area.

Anet doesnt even need large amounts of traffic to monitor farming areas, if they notice your player weath has been increasing at too fast a rate, they can see you visit area X with build Y on a frequent basis.

i think your forgetting this is Anet, they know everything you do and say, they know what your inventry holds, they know how often youve typed /dance, they know Everything

If its in guildwars its =! Secret

I don't even consider farming a viable source of income if you ever want any serious amount of money with minimal time invested. So, tell me, how many 100's of ectos do you have from this farming method? (I assume your bank is already packed with 1k plat)

Well I don't have anything againts what the OP is trying to explain, but I guess it would be nice to share once in a while. For someone like me who works 10 hrs a day + 2-3 hrs of school, it's very difficult to sit in front of my computer, squeeze my brain some more for a solo build that could work and use to farm so I can get rich and afford all the fancy things in GW. I have to admit that I relied on other people's build to earn some cash here and there, 'cause like I said, after 12-13hrs of work and school there's just no time for me to think of my own farming build. Hey, I dont wanna die of Aneurysm if you ask me!

My point? I have no f---ing idea!

I made a goal to not spend any money and farm for 1 hour every day over the past 2 weeks before the factions release.

I started with 10k.

I finished with 300k.

I know you can make money faster if you buy and trade items, but the market isn't stable at the moment because of the factions release. I'll go back to buying and trading when the smoke clears.

Hhmmm I'm sort of halfway on this one. If I find a good spot I would probably farm the hell out of it for a while, then share.

But are'nt Anet like big brother? They can monitor if people are farming the same spot all of the time cant they?

You give people too much credit. 90% of the population in this game doesn't have the gumption to go out and find anything on their own.
to think that you are the only one who knows about a spot in the game is just moronic.

if i find a spot i will post it right here in this forum.

Doesn't matter what Anet monitors, because the game currently allows for hundreds of possible farming spots. The original OP is correct in pointing out that farming is all about recognizing patterns and then using that to your advantage. Enemy spawns and skill sets lack any element of randomness so consequently its extremely easy to find farming areas. You just have to think a little about a build that will take advantage of the enemies that you will be fighting.

In the long run Anet will have to decide if they want the game to develop an economy or not. If Anet doesn't care then farming will continue to be allowed.

actually anet does check guru for farming hotspots.. I thought they'd quit awhile back until posted a solo farming guide on the queen- the next day it was nerfed and gayle was posting around asking if anyone could still solo the thing.. same with sorrows- you can still solo sorrows but the drop rate was cut (kinda like what they did to uw)

I've yet to convert to ectos yet. I'm packing too many common and rare crafting materials in storage right no in anticipation of a small jump in price with factions armor. Honestly I don't see the point in having over 1000K. It's hard to spend that much without constantly replenishing it through just regular gameplay, farming totally aside. New characters will eat up at least 500K if not 750K.

Although I personally would never stoop so low as to NOT share my builds/spots (if I have any)... I guess the op has the right to protect his farming spots. Especially if Anet tracks down these spots and nerfs them.

What I get pissed off is the company itself... Anet. First there is the hard limitation of being able to use only 8 skills. Then they force us to constantly change and adapt to the changing scenarios and different mobs. These changes need different builds, armor sets, weapons, etc, etc. This is not a game where one build, one armor set and one weapon works anywhere and everywhere like other games *cough* World of Warcraft *cough*

Has any developer fcking seen how much any decent weapon costs? Where does one get the gold required for all these? Why dont they try to do something productive like controlling the inflation OR trying to implement an auctioning system in the game? Instead all they keep doing is nerf different builds that allows you to earn some much needed gold OR nerf some good farming spot.
